Hi there! My name is Matty Harris. I’m a graduate from the Programming and Web Development shop at Medford Vocational Technical High School (MVTHS) in Medford, MA. I love working on different computer related projects, especially those that involve writing software. I have experience with Python, JavaScript, C, and my personal favorite, Rust. I’ve also done work in robotics and cybersecurity.
I’m especially proud of my work with Zack Bertocchi, Noah Gibson, and Scott Campbell on hacking the MBTA CharlieCard. We reverse engineered the system of stored value on the card, and discovered a way to add as much money as we wanted without paying a dime. We responsibly disclosed this vulnerability to the MBTA, and in August, had an absolute blast delivering our talk Boston Infinite Money Glitch: Hacking Transit Cards Without Ending up In Handcuffs, in front of an audience of over 2,000 people at DEF CON 31 in Las Vegas! You can read about some of the press coverage we got in the Press section of my website.
During my time at MVTHS, I was also involved with Sunk Robotics, the robotics team at MVTHS. The team builds
underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) that participate in the
MATE ROV Competition. We won the New England
Regional three years in a row, and competed in the World Championship in
California, Colorado, and most recently in Tennessee where our ROV came in 3rd
place internationally and our team placed in the top 10. I was the pilot for
the first two years, and played a lead role in designing a custom software
stack for our ROV from scratch. You can check out the code for the ROV here:
